Nesting Pole
These nesting poles are carved from a single Australian hardwood trunk and designed to function as both habitat and landscape element. The timber is left predominantly raw, with burnt and carved patterns worked directly into the surface, following the grain, knots, and natural movement of the wood rather than concealing it.
A nesting hollow is carved in the upper section of the pole. The entrance and internal cavity are proportioned for small native birds, providing shelter, insulation, and protection while encouraging genuine use rather than decorative symbolism.
Natural cracks, tool marks, and weathering are retained as part of the form. Burnt patterning adds depth and contrast while keeping the surface honest, tactile, and responsive to time and exposure.
Designed for permanent outdoor installation. The pole can be set directly into the ground or concreted in, depending on site requirements.
Suitable for parks, playgrounds, schools, bushland edges, and private landscapes where habitat creation is integrated into the structure of the place.
Specifications
• Material: solid Australian hardwood
• Habitat: carved nesting hollow for small native birds
• Installation: suitable for direct ground installation or concreting
Custom sizes, species specific hollows, and finishes available on enquiry.
Each pole is a unique artwork. Natural variation in timber grain, hand carving, burning, and weathering means the final piece will differ from the images shown, which are indicative rather than exact.
