A sculpted fruit bat made from steel and hardwood, designed to hang inverted in the way real bats do, quietly occupying space rather than dominating it. The body is carved from solid timber, shaped by hand with visible grain, tool marks, and subtle asymmetries that give each piece its own character. The wings are folded steel planes, cut and formed, left raw to weather naturally and develop a living rust patina over time.
The contrast between warm timber and oxidising steel gives the sculpture a sense of tension and balance, organic and industrial, soft and sharp. The bat is suspended from a concealed steel fixing at the feet, engineered to be secure and load bearing, suitable for long term outdoor installation.
Designed to be hung from horizontal beams, traverses, pergolas, or tree branches. It can sit quietly in a garden, mark an entry, or be integrated into play or landscape environments as a sculptural presence that invites curiosity rather than instruction.
